I am willing to look like a fool for love. I don’t mean that in a sappy love song kind of a way that is purely just lip service. I actually mean it. I am willing to love my spouse, my children, my family and all my dear ones with a love that the world scoffs at. The world tells me what I deserve and what I am not allowed to put up with. They tell me that love is about how I feel, about my personal happiness and about my fulfillment. But my Jesus showed me what true love is. It is a sacrificial love. And what does sacrificial love do????
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
We’ve all read this passage. Many of us have it hanging on the walls of our home. But how may of us actually live out our love in this way????
I must love with a relentless love. A love that hopes not in the goodness of my beloved but in their true person, who they are in Christ. We are all sinners who easily fall into darkness. I am no better than the lowliest man. And because I know this my love compels me to elevate those I love out of the darkness in order to show them the love of God that is in the light of Christ. I must do this. I must speak the truth over them and know it in my heart so that they may know who they are and so they may be released from the grip of destruction. And what is the truth concerning them? They are heirs to the throne of God. They are more than conquerors. They are chosen and purposed and promised….
I must do this because Christ has done it for me. I must do this because I am keenly aware of how much I need this kind of love in my own life.
All my love,
