“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1
There is a simple question I need answered by the American Church. Do we believe the word of God is good???
If we believe the Bible is the living word of God; If we believe the living word is true; if we believe that the truth sets us free; then we ought to believe the true, living word is good. All the time. For everyone.
We, the American Church, has a tendency to water down the Word to make it more palpable. We live in so much fear that the true Word of God will be offensive that we pick and choose, we reinterpret and we outright disregard much of what it says. We have made a profession out of editing the book whose Author is our Sovereign Lord……. And when I see this happen, when I wish to do it myself, I must ask “Do we, do I, believe the word of God is good?
Church, the Word is not meant to be easy to digest.
“For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” Hebrews 4:12
The Word is meant to penetrate the deepest, darkest places of our being. It is meant to expose the thoughts and attitudes of our heart. It is meant to cut like a sword, not as an instrument to wound but rather as an instrument to heal. Just as the surgeon cuts out the diseased and decaying tissues in our body so does the word remove death and decay from our spirit.
“The sum of Your word is truth. And every one of your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” Psalm 119:160
The word of God is true and everlasting. The word of God is good. We don’t need to protect people from the truth. We do them and ourselves a grave disservice when we do.
So Church, “Do we believe the word of God is good?” If we believe it is good, than it is good all the time for everyone. It’s as simple as that.
All my love,
P.S. – Check your heart. Make sure your are in a right spirit when you minister the truth. If you intend to cause harm, if you are not acting in love, than no matter how good and how true the word is, you will cause only harm. However, if you intend to offer hope, freedom and love than no matter how harsh the truth may seem it will accomplish good in God’s perfect time.
